Composition - Resources for Warm Up Exercises

RESOURCES FOR WARMUP EXERCISES:

Any Child Can Write by Harvey Weiner. This is one of the best resources available for parents. It's been around since 1990 and keeps getting reprinted. In here, you'll find plenty of effective exercises that will help your child REALLY improve his composition skills. It also includes a chart to help you evaluate your child's writing by grade level. A must-have for all homeschoolers.

American History Writing Prompts. Here is a good way to integrate composition with history. Each daily prompt contains a short informative paragraph about some event in history along with an idea for a composition assignment related to it. For example: In the Revolutionary War section, the paragraph reads, “In the Declaration of Independence, John Hancock listed the inalienable rights of humankind as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Inalienable rights are rights that can't be surrendered or taken away. Do you believe people have certain inalienable rights? If so, what do you think they are?” Written for Grades 4-8. ISBN 0439040949.

Prompt a Day! Written for grades 3-6. Excellent resource for writing prompts to kickstart a writing project. ISBN 0590187384.

Marvelous Month-by-Month Writing Prompts. Written for grades 2-4. Another great resource for writing prompts. ISBN 0439222508.
